Keeping a journal is great to make your memories come alive again. It's great to organize thoughts and ideas because journals don't take up too much space and is a simple way to keep you organized. I keep a journal and stick small items from certain trips or adventure I've been on in it. Journals are also great to write out something spectacular that happened that day. I try to keep my journals positive! So even if something bad happened I would put a positive spin on it remembering that life is a journey and my journal reflects that from beginning to end.
Journaling is something I thought would be so hard to start. I like to do things that are fast and easy, so when I first wanted to get into journaling I realized it would cost me a bit of cash! looking at all the expensive tools but It definitely doesn't have to be. I wanted to create a simple list of things to help you start your journaling and planning journal. in the most cost effective way. This short list is something you can grow upon as your journaling journey continues.
1. Which kind of journal should you get?
There are ALL kinds of journals. Large journals, small journals, journals with binding, rings, hard covers and soft covers. I absolutely LOVE getting notebooks and books to write in, so I have a bit of experience in the journal and planner world. But for you who may not know where to start, I suggest you go to a store like Michael's and take look at the different journals, and books they have. Maybe you like to draw in your journal, you might want a journal/sketch book with blank pages, if you seem to write straighter with guidelines, perhaps a journal with notebook lines or a grid will work for you. I have recently discovered the dotted journal life and I was so happy to be apart of it last year. My instagram mimi_mellie_ has plenty of pictures for you to explore the pages I created. The most important part is picking the Journal, once that's done you can move on to the next step.
2. Writing supplies and tools.
The next step is finding writing tools that help you write your neatest and help bring out more of you, with color, or maybe without. There are gel pens, sharpie make pens, or bold crayons markers. I personally loved to color and draw so I used lots of color in my journal using Crayloa Supertips markers and more expensive better quality markers such as these Tombow Dual brush pens. They brought my writing and journal to life and I still have all these markers so I can continue to make art.
3. Improve your journaling with practice
It is important to remember that with time you get better at journaling. Though this journey you start to learn more about yourself as well. When you commit to it, you get to see the great things you can do without even knowing it. Through journaling I learned how to write Calligraphy. I was so surprised and now its second nature to me. I also learned how to draw doodles and make different creative pages for my journal. It may not be perfect at first, but don't strive for perfection strive for a journal that represents you, in its best form.
4. Posting your journaling pages.
You may not ever want to post your pages, and thats okay. You may post certain pages while others remain private, or Post everything! But if you are like me and want to create an online account to post your photos, Do not be afraid to! Post your work, you will find people just like you trying to make a way through journaling. You will see growth in yourself and others and find a home in the journaling community. It is truly inspiring.
I hope these few tips helped you in trying to create your own journal! feel free to share pictures of your journal, add me on instagram, or sign up on my website for more amazing posts like these.
